In 1954, Mr. Goizueta joined the technical department of The Coca-Cola Company in Havana, Cuba, where his family and he resided until 1960, when they relocated to the U.S. He held various positions of increased responsibility at The Coca-Cola Company prior to being elected President and Chief Operating Officer and a Director in 1980, and Chairman, Board of Directors, and Chief Executive Officer in 1981. Mr. Goizueta was a Director of SunTrust Banks, Inc., SONAT Inc, Ford Motor Company, and Eastman Kodak Company. Mr. Goizueta felt deeply that the nation's future and the future of our country's youth depended on the strength of the American family. In creating The Goizueta Foundation, he sought to acknowledge his indebtedness to this country and to continue the commitment to philanthropic endeavors that has symbolized the leadership of The Coca-Cola Company for more than a century. Due to the thoughtful, philanthropic vision of Mr. Goizueta, The Foundation aims to support educational programs that promote sustainable change and have a long-term impact in the community. In order to carry out this vision, The Foundation prefers to work closely with potential grantees to encourage open communication and foster a sense of community partnership. |
